Samudra Manthan: India’s ₹84,700 Crore Energy Mission

India is significantly expanding its domestic energy exploration by opening one million square kilometers of sedimentary basins for oil and gas development. Key initiatives include the Samudra Manthan Yojana, backed by up to ₹84,700 crore in government support to drill 150 wells over three years, and the award of eight contracts under the 2025–2026 Coal Bed Methane (CBM) bid rounds. Additionally, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched the India Hydrocarbon Outlook 2026 and offered over 2.96 lakh sq. km. of exploration acreage under OALP Rounds 10 and 11—all aimed at boosting investment, enhancing energy security, and driving domestic production.
